Christmas in Boston is a special time.  The historical charm of the city springs alive and visitors and locals alike are transported back in time to an old world holiday.  If you narrow your eyes you can almost picture horse drawn carriages delivering ladies in fur muffs and gentlemen in top hats to festivities.  Though the carriages are mostly gone now, the festivities throughout the city remain.  Restaurants, churches and communities come alive on Christmas Eve offering a host of parties to attend, dinners to indulge in, and merriment to revel in.

The evening kicks off at 4:30 pm with a Pageant at Trinity Church right in the heart of downtown Boston.  This gorgeous, historic church invites in the public, especially those with children to view, and participate in, their reenactment of the story of Christmas.  Celebrate the magic of the evening by remembering the origins of the holiday, and the true meaning.  Please view full details http://trinitychurchboston.org/calendar#year=2013&month=12&day=18&view=month

The cream of the crop of restaurants are opening their doors and preparing a host of special menus for the occasion.  L’Espalier, widely regarded as one of the best (if not THE best) restaurant in the city is preparing an indulgent 6-course meal for their guests, including delicacies of caviar, oysters, truffles and slow poached guinea hen.  The Bristol Lounge, with gorgeous views of the Boston Public Garden is offering their own 3 –course meal with flavors ranging from the traditional to Chef Vosika’s own creative spin.  Their menu ranges from a cauliflower and lobster bisque, to a traditional Turkey with all of the fixings to satisfy any palate.

End your evening in true historic fashion by attending the 88th annual performance of the Beacon Hill Bell Ringers.  This group gathers each year in famous Louisberg Square to regale the community with their own renditions of popular carols.  Attendees are urged to join in with song.  The tradition begins at 8 pm and lasts a full hour.

Boston has something for everyone Christmas Eve night, and whether you’ve been attending for years or are looking to expand your traditions, all are welcome to join in and spread their own merriment.
